But no permanent classroom
Who are the Six?
In the beginning, there was one school – NBNS, a residential CBSE School allowing day scholars to attend, providing classes till 12th grade for both Science and Commerce groups. After a few years another branch school NBIS was inaugurated, a CBSE days School providing classes till 10th grade. So, students completing 10th in NBIS are affiliated to NBNS to complete 12th grade. In the year 2020-21, NBIS acquires its own affiliation to accommodate classes 11 and 12. But the number of Science students were 26 while Commerce had only 6. So the six were sent to NBNS to study Commerce and next year with additional students joining 11th grade commerce, the six day scholar commerce students who completed 10th in NBIS and 11th in NBNS were asked to attend 12th grade classes back in NBIS.
Why no Classroom?
Given that the school wasn’t planning on having a Commerce board, the classrooms were occupied with no extra room for the 12th Commerce students. So they were temporarily asked to use the Arts and Crafts storage room on the 1st floor. After a few weeks in the room with the Crafts teacher and her students regularly visiting for supplies, the six were asked to shift to the Biology Lab on the 2nd floor corner. Yes, the BIOLOGY LAB, which is not only angled to have no parallel walls but is also coincidentally one of the smallest rooms in the building. The room is also fitted with 2 Granite island tables in the middle with granite countertops, window displaying shelfs and a skeleton displaying closet which cover 3 perimeters of the room whole. It barely fit the school desks and they had to use plastic chairs to compensate lack of seating space. Months later, a reallocation of classrooms to provide proper attention to board exam preparing students had them shifting rooms to newly cleared out classrooms. Not even a week after that, the six were again shifted to another corner room on the 2nd floor which became their residence.
Showing Off!!
Though the rooms were always deemed temporary, it was where the six met everyday and laughed together, eventually leading them to consider the rooms as theirs. They then took pride of their not so whole classrooms and always welcomed other peers, juniors and teachers to show the contents of their shared space rooms. The Art and Crafts room always had spare items stored in the open racks or lying on the island table. So they used those to play with and applied wasted glitter on incomers. They helped juniors collect stuff from higher racks and played with remaining thermocol. The biology lab room was their pride as the six showed off various display of animal specimens on the glass display as well as those inside the counters. The lab equipment consisting of different microscopes and cellular specimens were reserved for close lipped people. Not to forget the additional person sitting in the glass doored closet, a must have for biology labs. The last classroom they transferred to had an open view of the school grounds, cafeteria and the staffroom located on the adjacent walled 1st floor. Turns out having a not so properly angled four wall room gave them peripheral vision to locate staff on the cafeteria grounds and staffroom. It also gave view to the staircase of the adjacent part of school along with narrow margin of vision to the school office threshold on the ground floor. Board exams were done with and happy to say that their not so permanent classrooms helped them make silly memories which will obviously be cherished for years to come.
